What is a mansard

We call the mansard a living space in the attic of the house. In narrower terms, it is used for flats in houses with a mansard roof, in broader sense, on the contrary, for the entire attic.

The mansard roofs have been built since the 16th century at the large Baroque palaces. Architects have invented differently angled roofs with varying degrees of inclination. Since the 19th century, mansard roofs have begun to be built in apartment buildings, where they used the space just below the barn.
